In 1970 researcher Cleofe Person de Mattos made publish, by the Federal
Council of Culture of Brazil, a thematic catalogue of all remaining works from
José Maurício. It was the first of its kind about a brazilian
composer. There are related 237 compositions whose authorship had been
confirmed, 11 compositions of doubtful authorship, and 172 titles of
his lost works, but for which there are some historical record.
Music is ordered on it by theme, date and tone. The two recently discovered Modinhas received from Dona Cleofe, in her book José Mauricio Nunes Garcia - Biography, numbers 238 and 239, and (we) included them in a new cathegory: Secular Works (recently found) because they do not apply to the last cathegory Orchestration.
